The FeesMustFall campaign was a combined student protest from all the Universities in South Africa who though that the government was not doing enough for them in terms of funding for their education therefore most student were dropped out of universities , Even though the protest started in one university, the power of social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter made it possible for the campaign to spread amongst people or I should I say other Universities in the country and even reached South African student studying abroad.

This Social Media networks played a major role in spreading the message and getting the attention of the public, thus a lot people and top influencers like our Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula was tweeting in support of the FeesMustFall campaign. Most Political Parties took these as a major platform to put the blame on the ruling party for failing to provide the needs of our students through education,

The rivals of ANC just got the full edge to put the blame on our President Jacob Zuma and his team, and these was caused by the negative comments and posts that people were Tweeting and Facebooking to their followers about our ruling party and some of the comments that our minister of Education Blade Nzimande made through some of the press conferences and also the meeting he had with the students representatives, I quote “if the students don’t accept this, we’ll start our own movement. Students must fall” Said Nzimande. These kinds of comments coming from the minister of education shows how unreasonable he can be since he isn’t a student and I suppose he has it all good but then again it angered the students and it surely got the attention from the public that our government does not care about our youth but themselves.

As with all the Advantages and Disadvantages, The social media brought acknowledgement and understanding between the government and students, because finally the president assured the students that there won’t be any increment of fees in the next year, the social media also worked against the government because after the FeesmMustFall campaign various departments were also fighting for their rights to be heard, Thus these campaign was a good eye opener to many of us south African citizen that standing together as youth we can take these country to the next level. The ideology of the FeesMustFall campaign was not to cause any kinds of chaos for the ruling party, but was to show voice their problem through the increment of fees and stand together as youth of this country till their voice was heard and finally their expectations were met.

    1. I totally side with you when you say that the student did well by protesting. The protest was a major movement and and it surely changed the how the public viewed tertiory institition and their unreasonable fees the funders of students have to pay. Education should be accessable to all people regardless of their background. Fees is an important tool one can use to change their background

  2. I personally believe that these protest was one of the strong and sensitive protest so far and it showed how leadership in the country care less about education. I mean if they cared, mr blade shouldn't have joked about this protest in front of the student representatives

  3. Yes it was very insensitive of Blade to say those words. People of higher profiles like Blade should always be professional when addressing such issues. He was completely out of line and i'm sure he must have realised it later that's why he showed remorse

  4. Blade just made a full of himself during the meeting with the student representatives and what he did was poor publicity for himself and the rulling party

  7. I guess he must have said those words without really thinking about how the public will view him in future and he must have not thought about the influence he would spread to the youth and those who look out to him

  8. I personally fell in love with these protest, it worked for us as students and i think us as student should take it to the next level and protest that they cut these fees so that we pay less because still there are those who still cant afford to pay these fees and they are unable to recieve their results end of the year

  9. This protest was a sensetive issue and the government should make education accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford to pay for the fees but to everyone since we are not all lucky to get funding from different institution. The fees must fall campaign was indeed an eye opener to a lot of people and they must have seen why the rate for unemployment is high in the country, a lot of people drop out simply because they cant afford to pay , not that they don't want to better their future
